Terms of Service
Plain terms for a plain service.
These terms cover the interPROter plugin and the translation service behind it.
They are written to be read, not skimmed past. If something here is unclear, ask us before
you rely on it.
Version 1 — draft of 17 September 2026. Applies from the day it is published at interproter.com/terms.
1. Who we are
The service is provided by Bastinet, a business registered in Finland (Business ID
2492063-7), Teknologiantie 18, 90590 Oulu, Finland. You can reach us at
hello@interproter.com.
2. What the service is
interPROter has two parts.
- The plugin runs on your WordPress site. It is free software under the GNU General
Public License, version 2 or later. You may use, copy, modify and redistribute it under
that licence, and nothing in these terms limits it.
- The translation service is what the plugin calls when it needs a new translation.
It receives text from your site, obtains a translation and returns it. Your site stores the
result in its own database and serves it from there. These terms are about the service.
The service is available in tiers with a monthly character allowance, as shown on the
pricing page at the time you sign up. The allowance renews each month and does not
accumulate. A key is issued to one website address and may not be shared between sites.
3. Your content
The text your site sends us is yours, and so is every translation we return. We claim no
rights in either. We do not store the text we translate: it is forwarded to the translation
engine, the result is returned to your site, and the request ends. See the
privacy notice for exactly what we do keep.
You are responsible for the content of your site, including that you have the right to
publish and translate it and that it is lawful where it is published.
4. Machine translation
Translations are produced by a machine — the DeepL translation engine — not by a human
translator. They are good, and they are not guaranteed to be correct, complete or suitable
for any particular purpose. Legal, medical, safety and contractual text should be reviewed by
a person before you rely on it. The plugin lets you correct any translation and lock the
correction; the plugin also lets you hold a language back until a person has approved it.
5. Fair use
Please do not:
- use the service for content that is unlawful, or that you have no right to publish;
- share a key between sites, or obtain keys for sites you do not control;
- send text that is not content of the site the key was issued to, or otherwise use the
service as a general translation API;
- attempt to overload, probe or circumvent the service, its limits or its security.
If a key is used in one of these ways we may suspend it. We will tell you why, and we will
not delete anything on your site — we could not: your translations live in your database.
6. Availability
We run the service carefully and on our own infrastructure, and we do not promise a
specific uptime. The service is designed so that its availability does not affect your
visitors: your site renders every existing translation from its own database whether or
not the service is reachable. If the service is down, only new translations wait
until it is back.
7. Paying, renewing, stopping
Paid tiers are charged per site for a year in advance, in euros, at the price shown on the
pricing page when you buy. Prices exclude VAT where VAT applies.
A paid tier renews itself. At the end of each year it continues for another year at
the price then shown on the pricing page, and we charge it again. We tell you by email
before we charge. To stop it, write to hello@interproter.com
before the renewal date — there is no notice period and no penalty.
You may stop at any time; a paid year already begun is not refunded pro rata unless the law
where you live says otherwise.
If you are a consumer in the EU, you have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. A
translation service begins the moment you use it, so at checkout you are asked to confirm
that you want it to start immediately — and that once we have fully performed it, the
14-day right no longer applies. Until you make that confirmation, the service does not
start.
When a paid year ends, or a preview key reaches its one-time allowance, new translations stop
until a plan is bought or renewed. Nothing already translated is removed, hidden
or held back. It is in your database, and it stays there.
8. Changes
We may change these terms. If we do, we will publish the new version here with a new date
and version number, and tell existing paying customers by email at least 30 days before a
change that affects them. If you continue to use the service after that, the new terms
apply. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the service; your translations stay
yours.
9. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from the service is
limited to the amount you paid us for that site in the twelve months before the claim, and
we are not liable for indirect losses such as lost sales, lost data on your side, or the
consequences of an incorrect translation. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be
limited under the law that applies to you, including consumers' statutory rights.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Disputes are settled in the District
Court of Oulu, Finland. If you are a consumer in the European Union you may also use the
dispute resolution body of your own country, and in Finland the Consumer Disputes Board
(kuluttajariita.fi). We would much rather talk first: write to us.
The short version. The plugin is free software. The service translates your text and
keeps none of it. Everything it produces is yours, in your own database, and it stays there
whatever happens to us or to your subscription. Machine translations can be wrong; you can
fix and lock any of them. Be fair with the keys. Finnish law.
